Reuben is an economist and climate finance expert specializing in international economics, climate risk, and sustainable finance. He is the Founder and Director of Climate Shapers Africa Ltd and Founder of the Kenya Climate and Nature Directory. He sits on the Steering Committee of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) AgriFood Project in Kenya.
Prior to founding Climate Shapers Africa Ltd, he worked with the United Nations, Credit Suisse, and McKinsey & Company. He has advised and consulted for a wide range of international organisations, DFIs, NGOs, private companies, governments, and central banks, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, WWF, and the Central Bank of Kenya.
Reuben is a recognized expert on climate finance and the greening of financial systems. He served as a Senior Climate Risk Expert on the Central Bank of Kenya technical assistance programme that developed the Kenya Green Finance Taxonomy. He has delivered technical assistance and capacity-building programmes across multiple countries, training more than 1,500 senior executives and policymakers, including central bankers from 20 countries.
His work has been featured in leading platforms including the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the World Economic Forum, Project Syndicate, and Green Central Banking. He has received several international awards, including the St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award and the Rudi Dornbusch Prize in International Economics, and has authored numerous published articles, commissioned reports, and book chapters.
He is a frequent speaker at international and regional forums hosted by institutions including the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA), and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI).
He holds a Master’s degree in International Economics from the Geneva Graduate Institute (Switzerland) and a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Economics from Strathmore University (Kenya). He is currently a PhD candidate in International Economics at the Geneva Graduate Institute and serves as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Cape Town (South Africa) and Strathmore Business School (Kenya).
He is an Agenda Contributor to the World Economic Forum and serves on the Climate Finance Working Group of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford.
